Rochdale Musical Theatre Company Newsletter December 2018
RMTC performed the musical, RENT, at Heywood Civic Centre from Tues 20th– Sat 24th November 2018. Many thanks to all those members and friends who helped to make this show a success. Thank you to all those that helped with front of house and to those that helped behind the scenes in so many different ways. You are vitally important to the Society and the shows could not go ahead without your support.
RENT, has received fantastic reviews from the critics that came to watch. A review by Paul Downham from Northwestend begins, ‘I am constantly surprised by the ever increasing levels of talent treading the boards in “amateur” theatres across the UK. Yes, it has always been good, but I truly believe that the only difference today between the amateur tag and the professional one is money. This was especially evident tonight at Heywood Civic as Rochdale Musical Theatre Company (RMTC) presented the timeless RENT.’
The full review can be read on the RMTC website, (www.rochdalemtc.co.uk).
A review from ACT (Association of Community Theatre) also praises the show, as this short extract highlights, ‘Both actresses, Sophie Lord (Maureen) and Kyanna Cronshaw (Joanne) gave stellar performances. The break-up duet, “Take Me or Leave Me” had that ‘wow’ factor. All the other members of the community were believable giving convincing support especially in the company number “La Vie Bohème”.

A third review, from Number 9: Theatre Music and Film, commends the Society on the talented cast, ‘It’s a gritty and tragic story with a vocal score and characters requiring a hugely talented and multi-disciplined cast, and I more than happy to report that that is exactly what RMTC’s production had.’ This review by Matthew Dougall concludes, ‘This is the third show I have seen now from this company. The first was the northern premiere production of ‘A Tale Of Two Cities’, followed last year by ‘The Full Monty’, and this boundary-pushing society just gets better and better!’ This review can be read in full at: http://number9reviews.blogspot.com/2018/11/review-rent-civic-centre-heywood.html
